EMOTIONAL STAGES OF REMODELING

I. EUPHORIC STAGE

   Excitement - "Yea! We've started!"

Adventure - "It will be fun camping out in our house."

Denial - "This won't disrupt our lives too much. We can do without the kitchen/laundry room/bedroom/bathroom for a period of time."

II. PRODUCTIVE STAGE

Energetic - "Look what's been done so far! We're moving right along."

Coping - "I can handle this mud, mess and disorder."

Hospitality - "Can I get you something to drink?"

III. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING STAGE

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions - "Why does this have to be so complicated?"

Ordering - "It takes how many weeks to get this in?"

Disparity - "Why does my taste not match my pocketbook (or my allowances)?"

IV. THERAPY STAGE

Marriage - "What do you mean you like this better?"

Child - "How did families ever live in one room homes?"

Personal - "I think I'm going crazy!"

V. QUESTIONING STAGE

Future - "Will this ever be over?"

Order - "Will my house/yard ever be presentable again?" Where is all this dust coming from?"

Disbelief - "What were we thinking?"

VI. THE WOW STAGE

  Infatuation - "Oh, I love the…."

Newness - "What fun to try this out."

Pride - "It looks great!" "We've done it!"

VII. THANKFUL STAGE

For a job well done - "I appreciate the attention given to details."

For relationships made - "They've seen me at my best and my worse."

For normalcy - "And now to get back to life as it was before construction."
